Twins Earn First Win in Weekend Series

The Twins women's soccer team earned their first win in a home and away series this past weekend. On Saturday they traveled to take on the Corning Community College Red Barons. The Twins came into this game having lost their first contest of the season to SUNY Broome.

Corning got the scoring started in the first eight minutes of the game. The Twins kept them at bay till a late goal in the first half, put Corning up 2-0. The Twins came out with aggression in the second half and got a goal of their own. Freshman Maggie Ryan scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute to put the Twins in striking distance. They kept the shots coming, as the Red Barons were fighting to keep the lead. In the final two minutes, Corning was awarded a penalty shot. They converted it to take the late 3-1 lead. The Twins fall in a close one to Corning, 3-1.

The Twins finished with 16 shots on goal. Freshman Maggie Ryan scored the Twins lone goal and had five shots. In goal for the Twins was Sophomore Keegan Deyo. She recorded 14 saves in the loss.

The next day, the Twins stayed at home to take on the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks. The Jayhawks came in with an 0-2 record to start their season. The Twins took an early lead with a goal off a free kick in the third minute from Freshman Maggie Ryan. The Twins struck again in the 10th minute to take the 2-0 lead. Freshman Jenna Quick scored the goal with the assist coming from Freshman Maggie Ryan. The Twins got another goal in the first three minutes of the second half from Sophomre Katherine Christman assisted by Sophomore Holly Kleinmeier. Sophomore Keegan Deyo added another goal to give the Twins a 4-0 victory over the Jayhawks.

Freshman Maggie Ryan led the team with one goal and one assist in the win. Katherine Christman, Keegan Deyo, and Jenna Quick each recorded a goal. Sophomore Holly Kleinmeier picked up an assist as well.

The Twins finish the weekend with a 1-2 record this season. They look to keep the momentum going when they take on Herkimer College Sunday September 8th. This game will be at Herkimer with a start time of 2 pm. The Twins next home game will be September 17th at 3 pm against Dutchess Community College.
