CGCC Student Recognition Award List

 

 Below are descriptions of each of the annual student-athlete recognition awards:

 

Most Outstanding Player & Coaches Award (Each Sport)

The MOP Awards are given to athletes, chosen by their coaches, who had the most outstanding performance that year on their team. The coaches award is typically given to athletes, chosen by their coaches, who demonstrate strong leadership during the year. Each sport gives out a MOP and coaches award

Gail Marie Gabriele Memorial Award

The recipient of this award is an athletically talented individual who possesses a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. This award was created to recognize an athlete who emulates most closely those qualities that Gail demonstrated throughout her athletic career. 

Michael F. Betke Award

 Michael F. Betke of Coxsackie, NY, attended CGCC in the 1980's. Michael had a magnetic and outgoing personality and was well liked by his fellow students, as well as the faculty and staff. During his time at CGCC, Michael became very close to the college intramural program. He coached teams in each semester of his attendance at the college. Michael became widely Known as "The Intramural Coach" because of his trademark of wearing a suit and tie to each and every intramural game.

David A Rarich Scholar Athlete Award 

This award goes to a freshman scholar-athlete who has completed 12 semester hours and a sophomore scholar-athlete who has completed 31 or more semester hours, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. These students must demonstrate a high level of athletic proficiency and/or make significant contributions to their teams and combine that level of athletic participation with outstanding academic achievement. 

Green and Gold Award

 This award is given to an individual(s) who shows community and emotional support, perseverance, determination in the classroom, on campus and/or on the athletic playing surface.

Directors Award

This award is presented at the discretion of the Athletic Director on the basis of service to the department and coaches, good sportsmanship, performance, or leadership. 

Male Athlete of the Year

This award is given to a male student demonstrating outstanding varsity athletic achievements and superior athletic performance during the course of the current school year. The first preference for this award is given to those students who have participated in a multiple number of sports with a high level of proficiency.

Female Athlete of the Year

This award is given to a female student demonstrating outstanding varsity athletic achievements and superior athletic performance during the course of the current school year. The first preference for this award is given to those students who have participated in a multiple number of sports with a high level of proficiency. 

Two Year Student-Athletes

  Athletes who have competed for CGCC at the varsity level are recognized and receive their varsity letters.
