Twins Win One and Lose One Against Broome
The Basics
Game One
Score: Twins 12, Hornets 20 (8 innings)
How it happened:
The Twins played at home on Tuesday when they took on the SUNY Broome Hornets in a Region III matchup. Kaylee Hoffman was the starting pitcher for the Twins. This is her 10th start of the season. She started out not allowing any runs through the first three innings. This allowed the Twins to take an early lead, going up 4-0. The Hornets struck back in the fourth inning with four runs of their own to make it a tied game. The Twins took back the lead till the seventh inning arrived. The Hornets rallied for seven runs to go up 11-10. The Twins picked up one run in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings. The Hornets came back out with a nine run eighth inning and took the win in this one, 20-12.
The Twins struggled in the field as they had nine errors. Just seven of the 20 runs scored were earned. Sophomore Kaylee Hoffman pitched the first six innings for the Twins. She allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and six walks. Hoffman also had a day at the plate going four for four with two runs batted in. Freshman Claire Filak pitched the final two innings for the Twins. She allowed two earned runs on five hits. Sophomore Sydney Spohler went three for five at the plate and picked up three runs batted in. Sophomore Justine Albin drove in four runs on two hits.
Game Two
Score: Twins 7, Hornets 4
How it happened:
After a long game one, the Twins got prepared to play game two of the day against SUNY Broome. Kaylee Hoffman would get the start once again. It was another back and forth game. Both teams logged a run in the first inning. The Twins took the lead in the second inning, 3-2. The Twins strengthened that lead in the fourth to make it a 7-3 game. The Hornets effort to comeback would not be strong enough in this one as the Twins win 7-4 in six innings.
Sophomore Kaylee Hoffman pitched all six innings for the Twins. She allowed just three runs on seven hits while striking out five. Six different Twins picked up an RBI. Freshman Jenna Poulsen went four for four at the plate scoring one run. Freshman Holly Kleinmeier went three for four at the plate with two doubles leading to one run batted in. Freshman Claire Filak went two for three at the plate while driving in one run.
The Twins will be back in action Thursday when they travel to take on SUNY Adirondack. This game is taking place at SUNY Adirondack April 25th. First pitch is set for 3pm.
