This past weekend Twins softball played their first home games of the season.  The Twins looked to bounce back after losing their first two games of the season last week.  They took on Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday.  Returner D'Arcy Bittner was the starting pitcher for the Twins.  She would lead them to victory, defeating the Panther, 9 - 0.  Bittner pitched five scoreless innings and got seven strikeouts.  She also helped the team on offense, going 1 – 1 and driving in one run.  Freshman Lauren Bowes went 2 – 2 in the game scoring three runs and batting in two runs.  Brooke Hapeman hit a triple with the bases loaded to contribute three RBI's. 

The Twins would give Bittner the ball on the mound again, starting her second game in a row in the doubleheader against the visiting Panthers.  She would not allow any runs through her five innings pitched as the Twins defeat the Panthers 17 – 0.  This game, Tori Popp led the way on offense, going 3 – 3 at the plate and getting an incredible eight RBI's.  Bowes continued her success at the plate going 3 – 5 with two doubles and three RBI's. 

On Sunday, the Twins played another doubleheader at home against nationally ranked sixth Corning Community College.  The Twins pitching would struggle in the first game as they fell to Corning in the first game, 13 – 4.  Lauren Bowes once again had success at the plate going 2 – 4 with one double.  Michaella Lamont went 1 – 2 with a double and a walk.

The second game went much better for the Twins.  It was a close one through the seven innings played.  In the top of the seventh the Twins were down by one, 5 – 4.  Lamont was up to bat with a runner on.  She hit a game tying double to tie the game at 5 – 5.  The Red Barons would hit a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh to take the game 6 – 5.  Bittner finished the game with a double and two runs scored going 2 – 3 at the plate.  Lamont went 2 – 4 with a double.

Peter Dedrick comments on the Twins performance this weekend: " It was a good weekend I thought in terms on getting our bats going. We faced some tough pitching and put some good swings on the ball. I think we showed ourselves we can play with the top teams when we play defense. We definitely made strides in getting better and we have a lot of season left."

The Twins will be back home this Thursday April 13th as they take on the Herkimer College Generals in a doubleheader at 3pm and 5pm.
