The next batter, Shannon McNeff, started things up again for the Twins with a double. Jordynn Grossman hit a single up the middle to score McNeff.

Jordynn Grossman 1-3 with a run scored

Highlights:

It was another pitchers battle throughout game two.

The game was 0-0 until the 5th inning when Onondaga scored a run. OCC led the inning off with a single and a walk. Their next batter bunted and the Twins played it aggressively trying to get the out at 3rd, but threw the ball away.  Damage was minor and the Twins held OCC to one run.

In the top of the 6th inning, Jordynn Grossman advanced to home on a ball OCC threw away into dead ball territory. Game tied up 1-1.

In the top of the 7th inning, CGCC threatened Onondaga when Elizabeth Gould hit a single and advanced to 2nd base on a stolen base. Brooke Hapeman crushed a ground ball up the middle but OCC shortstop made a diving play up to hold the runner at 2nd. Twins had runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out when Jaime Staunch laced a line drive, but again the OCC shortstop made a leaping catch and doubled off Gould at 2nd.

Onondaga hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 7th to win game two. (Onondaga was home in game two because of new league rules that have the teams switch home and away for double headers)

Coach Comments

"Onondaga came into the game with a perfect 11-0 record in the region, so both games were very tough losses.  They were great collegiate games and we just came up short. We are right there and just need to get over the hump to turn these close games into wins. Onondaga is one of the top teams in the region and we were right there to take a game or two. Hopefully playing in a close game like this against a top team showed our girls that they belong and we can put this behind us to move forward.  We still play 16 games in the region so we have plenty of games left to make our mark. We just have to take one game at a time"
Next game is Tuesday, April 19th at home vs Mohawk Valley CC with first pitch set to start at 3 PM.
