Twins Kick Off Season with Goldberg Classic Tournament

The Twins men's basketball team started their season last Friday hosting the Goldberg Classic basketball tournament for the 13th year in a row. This would be the Twins first regular season game under the direction of new head coach Ryan Parshall. The Twins started things with the early game on Friday against the Word of Life Huskies.

The Twins took an early lead against the Huskies. Freshman Rande Harper had 18 first half points to lead the Twins into halftime. They held a comfortable lead 51-26. The Twins continued to dominate in the second half, earning the win in the end. The final score was 94-42. Rande Harper was the star for the Twins with 27 points scored. Sophomore Cameron Thomas scored 12 points. Sophomore Isaac McIntosh contributed 11 points in the win. In the later first round game, Niagara Community College defeated SUNY Orange 71-63. This set up for the Goldberg Classic Championship game between the Columbia-Greene Twins and the Niagara Thunderwolves.

The third-place game was between the Word of Life Huskies and SUNY Orange. SUNY Orange ran away with this game by a final score of 109-56. The championship game was up next between the Twins and Thunderwolves. Despite getting on the board quickly and taking the early lead, the Twins began to struggle to get shots to drop. A struggling half for the Twins, they would be down at halftime, 42-34. The Twins continued to struggle from the field as the Thunderwolves grew their lead. The Twins would take the loss in this one by a final of 91-72. Sophomore Myles Ukoh was the leading scorer for the Twins with 22 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Cameron Thomas picked up a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Rande Harper had nine points and seven assists in the loss.

The Twins claim the runners-up recognition for the 2019 Goldberg Classic with the Niagara Thunderwolves claiming the championship. Tournament MVP was William Kondrat of Niagara Community College.

The team will be back in action at home for their next contest. They will battle Tompkins Cortland Community College Saturday November 9th at 2 pm. The next day, Sunday November 10th, the Twins will be at home again. They will take on Schenectady County Community College at 1 pm.
