Twins Compete Against Royals

The Twins baseball team traveled to Schenectady County Community College to take on the Royals in conference action Saturday.

Sophomore Hunter Goodacre was handed the ball for the start in game one of the double-header.  The Royals took an early lead with four runs in the first inning to go up 4 – 0.  The Twins scored three runs in the top of the third inning to mount a comeback.  However, this would be all from the Twins offense as they fall to the Royals, 12 – 3.  Goodacre pitched three innings for the Twins and allowed six earned runs on 10 hits.  Freshman Tom McGahan pitched the other three innings for the Twins and allowed one run on two hits.  Freshman Sean Berry went two for four at the plate and scored one run.  Sophomore Joseph Tedford went one for three at the plate and scored one run.  The Twins recorded five hits in the six-inning game.

Game two was a much closer contest.  Sophomore Phillip Proper got the start for the Twins in this one.  He would give up three runs to the Royals in the first inning.  The Twins would strike in the second with their first run of the game to make it 3 – 1.  The Twins would tack on two more in the third inning to bring them within reach of the Royals, 4 – 3.  A big fouth inning for the Royals gave them a commanding lead, 8 – 3 after four innings.  The Twins would score four more in the seven-inning game but ultimately fell to the Roayls by a final score of, 10 – 7.  Freshman Sean Berry went one for three at the plate and drove in a run for the Twins.  Freshman Kevin Schrowang went two for two and drove in a run.  Freshman Tyler Drahushuk got on base four times after being walked three times and picking up one hit.  Drahushuk also recorded his first stolen base of the season.

The Twins will continue to battle it out when they take on Herkimer College at home.  The double-header is set to take place at 2 pm on Tuesday May 1st
