Twins Finish Outstanding Season

The Twins began their playoff run with a win over Jefferson Community College in the first round.  This put them in the Regional Final Four.  They got set to take on North Country Community College in the semi-final matchup on Saturday.  The Twins faced the North Country Saints twice during the regular season.  They came away with one win and one loss in these matchups.

Friday afternoon began with the first of the semi-finals games between Finger Lakes Community College and Onondaga Community College. This game was a close one all the way through with Onondaga coming away with the upset victory.  Then it was the Twins time to shine as they took on North Country Community College.

The Twins struggled to score in the first minutes of the game.  They would finish the first quarter strong however as they stay tied at 13.  A big second quarter for the Saints put the Twins in a hole.  The Twins went down at half, 36 – 24.   They came out in the second half with tenacity and had a huge third quarter.  The Twins scored more in the third quarter than they did in the whole first half to give themselves the lead, 51 – 50.  The Twins took this momentum into the fourth quarter to punch their ticket to the Region III Championship Game.  Sophomore All'aha Albright worked hard in the paint to come away with 16 points and nine rebounds.  Sophomore Tanisha Edge played all 40 minutes for the Twins and picked up 14 points with seven assists and four steals.  Freshman Anyla Harper went 3 of 5 from the three-point line to get 14 points and eight rebounds.  Freshman Daniella Weinschreider finished with 13 points and four rebounds.  This put the Twins up against the Onondaga Community College Lazers in Sunday's Championship Game.

The Twins faced the Onondaga Lazers just once this past regular season.  They came away with their first loss of the season at the hands of the Lazers.  That was months ago as the Twins come into the championship game as the higher seed.  The Twins struggled to keep up with Onondaga's high-powered offense in the first quarter.  They would be down after one quarter, 29 – 20.  The second quarter was the worst quarter for the Twins as their shooting struggled.  They would go into halftime far behind the Lazers, 55 – 29.  The Twins started the third quarter with speed and determination. Tanisha Edge dropped 17 points in the third quarter.  This put them within range but still behind at the end of three, 75 – 59.  Edge went off with another 17 points in the fourth quarter. However this would not be enough to overcome the Lazers offense as the Twins fall to Onondaga Community College 97 – 80.  Sophomore Tanisha Edge played every minute once again for the Twins and reached a double-double with an incredible 43 points, 10 steals and five assists.  Freshman Daniella Weinschreider scored 13 points in the loss.  Sophomore All'aha Abright scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Twins season ends in the Region III Championship game.  In only the second season of the new Twins Women's basketball program, they finish as the Region III Runners-up.  Below are the Register-Star articles about the Twins playoff run.
