Team Greets Game Winning Run
Women's Softball Completes Sweep of Hudson Valley with Late Rally

In an always highly anticipated game, the Columbia-Greene softball team hosted neighboring school Hudson Valley CC in a softball double header on Thursday afternoon.

 Game 1

Continuing the recent trend, CGCC jumped out to an early lead.  Hannah Simmons continued to swing a hot bat, lining a single up the middle to load the bases in the first inning.  With the help of a few errors Columbia-Greene would finish the first with eight runs, and never looked back.  In the fourth Patti Cameron hit a single to drive in two more runs, followed by Rachel Vale's triple to seal the deal.  C-GCC won the first game 12-4 due to the 8 run mercy rule.

 Game 2

The second game of the afternoon had a different tone from the beginning.  Hudson Valley pitcher Maggie Miller had great stuff on the mound from the start, and slowed down the hot bats of C-GCC.  Twins pitcher Brittany Willson was also up to the task, keeping HVCC hitters off balance as well.  In this pitchers' duel, HVCC would strike first, plating two runs in the third inning.  The Twins entered the bottom of the fifth inning in a 4-1 hole, but chipped away to cut the lead to 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh.  Sophomore Rachel Vale continued to show her power and leadoff the inning with solo HR to left field.  "When Rachel hit that homerun, the energy in our dugout went up and gave us a bit of momentum," said head coach Peter Dedrick.  With the score now 4-3, the Twins knew they had more work to do.  Patti Cameron followed up the HR with a walk and stole second to get into scoring position.  After a throwing error by HVCC third basemen, the Twins now had first and third with no outs.  Following a stolen base from Krysta Konderwich, CGCC has exactly what they want with Hannah Simmons at the plate with the winning run now in scoring position.  "Hannah did a great job going with the pitch, and drove the ball to second, which scored the tying run and moved Krysta to third," stated Dedrick.  Danielle Lown would put the ball in play to the shortstop, who mishandled it, allowing the game winning run to score.

"You have to give the credit to the girls, they never gave up and kept fighting.  These are two big wins for us and hopefully this will help us gain some momentum moving on," Derick said postgame.

The Lady Twins improve their record to 5-2-1 overall.
