Lady Twins Begin Season with Sweep of Clinton CC

In cold, windy conditions the Columbia-Greene women's softball team finally played their first double header of the season. The Lady Twins came away with a sweep of Clinton CC by the scores of 11-1 and 12-1.

Game One

Freshman pitcher Brittany Willson started off her collegiate pitching career with her first of six strikeouts on the first batter of the game.  In the bottom half of the inning, the Twins offense didn't waste any time by putting up four runs.  The Twins' first big hit of the season came from Karlee Moore, who roped a double over the center fielder's head to drive in two of those runs.  The offense stayed hot and drove in another five runs in the second inning, putting the game away.  Outfielder Hannah Simmons ripped a triple down the right field line, scoring two.  In the fourth inning, C-GCC would put up two more runs before the game was called due the 5 inning mercy rule.

 Game Two

The second game was all about pitching and defense for the Twins.  Brittany Willson continued where she had left off from the first game, striking out a combined four hitters.  The infielders played solid defense, highlighted by Krysta Konderwich's line drive snag at third base in the fourth inning.  The offense came out flat in the first two innings before exploding for seven runs in the third.  Patti Cameron led the offense, going 3-3 with a double and two RBI's. Once again, the game called in 5 innings due to the 8 run mercy rule.

Head Coach Peter Dedrick said, "it's still very early in the season, and we have a lot of work left to do, but the girls played well. I was very happy with our defense today. Brittany followed the scouting report and pounded the strike zone."

The Lady Twins return to action on Friday when they take on Onondaga CC.  First pitch is 3:00pm.
