Heartbreaking loss against Mohawk Valley Hawks
Dec 6, 2023

The Twins played a thrilling game against Mohawk Valley Community College last night at home. Within the first 5 minutes of the matchup, the game was destined to be a nail-biter.

From the tip, the twins came out on fire. On the first possession, Lavon Fernandez (Hudson, NY) came up with a steal and a transition bucket to put the Twins on the board. Following this came a three-pointer from Chrischen Chung (Poughkeepsie, NY) and an array of different looks that pushed the score to 24-12 within the first 8 minutes.

With 8 minutes left to go in the first half, the Hawks fought their way back into the game with multiple free throw attempts and offensive rebounds that turned into putbacks. After trading baskets back and forth, the Hawks then went on a run with three minutes left to go and pushed the halftime score to 38-52.

Following the break, the twins came out ready to play, cutting the lead down to six with 13 minutes off the clock. Sparking this push was Sean Haye (Catskill, NY), who would pour in an efficient 10 points from the midrange and also add two three-point bombs. The Twins continued to fight, and with 5 minutes left, Chrischen Chung hit another 3-point shot. Following this, the Hawks would push their lead to seven. The final score was 81-88.

Lavon Fernandez finished with 24 points, and Aaron Stewart finished with five three-point makes. Our twins fought hard and are looking for redemption this weekend with games away against Finger-Lakes Community College and Cayuga Community College. Tipoff on Saturday against Finger-Lakes Community College will be at 4:30 p.m.
