Twins Lose Heartbreaker to Defending National Champs

The Twins took on the Herkimer Generals for the first time since losing to them in the first round of the 2019 Region III Playoffs. The Generals went on to win the 2019 NJCAA DIII National Championship.

The Twins were looking to right the ship after losing their last five games. The Generals had struggled of late heading into this matchup with losses in their last two games.

The Twins came out hot, shooting the ball well throughout the first half. Kaijah Rodgers and Zach Hedgepeth each had three three-pointers fall in the first half. They would take a 41-40 lead into halftime. They came out with that same energy in the second half. A big three with about a minute to go from Zach Hedgepeth put the Twins in the driver's seat, 77-73. The Generals came right back with a three-pointer of their own to keep it tight. A couple turnovers from the Twins gave the Generals the opportunity to take an 81-79 lead with just under 5 seconds left. One last shot went up for the Twins but was just off as the Generals take the victory.

It was a great offensive game for the Twins as they made 11 three-pointers. Sophomore Zach Hedgepeth had most of them with five in the game. Hedgepeth finished with a season high 19 points. However, it was Sophomore Cameron Thomas that led the team in scoring with 23 points on 11 made baskets. Sophomore Kaijah Rodgers shot the ball well scoring 18 points. Sophomore Myles Ukoh stepped up, scoring all his points in the second half, finishing with 15.

The Twins fall at the final buzzer in this one but gain a bit of confidence. They will be at home again Saturday January 18th when they battle the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves. That game will tip off at 1pm.
