Twins Fall Short in Weekend Losses

The Twins men's basketball team took their game on the road this past weekend. The first of two matchups was against the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers on Saturday. The Lakers were 6-4 this season with a win in their most recent game against Tompkins Cortland Community College.

It was a ton of back and forth to open the first half with ten total lead changes. The Twins would carry the lead at halftime however, 42-39. The Twins out rebounded the Lakers by more than 10 in the first half. It was more of the same to open the second half. The Twins led early in the half by six points. The lead would disappear though with the Lakers taking the lead 64-63. The Twins struggled to get shots to drop late in the second half. They were held scoreless for 3 minutes 26 seconds before getting a bucket to fall. The last minute and a half of the game, the Twins were once again held scoreless as the Lakers hung on for the win, 83-71.

Turnovers proved to be a problem for the Twins recording 23 total. The Twins have allowed more turnovers than that just once this season. Sophomore Kaijah Rodgers led the team in scoring with 17 points and seven assists. Sophomore Myles Ukoh once again reached a double-double with 12 points and an incredible 17 rebounds. Ukoh also picked up a game leading five blocks. Freshman Rande Harper added 13 points and six assists in the loss.

The Twins looked to get that one back when they traveled to Corning Community College the next day. The Corning Red Barons were 4-7 this season heading into this matchup. The Twins struggled early on as the Red Barons took an early lead. The Twins would be in a hole at halftime, 55-30. The Twins battled in the second half but continued to struggle shooting the ball. They would fall to Corning Community College by a final score of 96-66.

Sophomore Kaijah Rodgers once again led the team in scoring and reached a triple-double for the second time this season. Doing it all for the Twins, Rodgers scored 18 points with 13 assists and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Cameron Thomas reached a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Myles Ukoh recorded 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

The Twins will finish out the semester on the road Tuesday December 10th. They will take on the #4 ranked Mohawk Valley Hawks at 6pm. The Twins will then have about a month break before getting back into it with a home game January 7th.
