Twins are Goldberg Classic Champions after Overtime Victory

The men's team played in the second game of the day.  They took on the Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies in the first round of the Goldberg Classic.  The men's team also looking to get their first win of the season.  They would get it as they defeated the Huskies to punch their ticket to the championship on Saturday to take on SUNY Orange.  Orange defeated Springfield Tech in the first round to get to the championship game. 

After the exciting women's game, the Twins men's team took the court against SUNY Orange.  Despite a low scoring first half the Twins stayed in range of Orange trailing by less than 10 at the half.  The second half would be a different story with the Twins scoring 51 points. Thanks to a couple of clutch three pointers from Jamie Nurse the Twins came back to tie it up at 86 at the end of the second half. Overtime would be all Twins to take home the Goldberg Classic championship trophy.  Sophomore Jordan Wright led the way for the Twins with 18 points and nine assists.  Sophomore Matthew Smith contributed 17 points in the win.  Freshman Jamie Nurse also scored 17 points and had four rebounds. Two Twins were named to the all-tournament team.  Jacorey Nixon earned all-tournament honors after recording 23 points, five steals, and nine rebounds. Jamie Nurse was named the tournament MVP after his big performance in the championship game.  Nurse scored a total 28 points along with six rebounds throughout the tournament to earn the MVP honor.  

The Twins look to continue their success at home Tuesday November 7th against Sullivan Community College. The women play at 5pm and the men play at 7pm.
