Twins Going to Regional Tournament

The Columbia-Greene men's basketball team won their final game of the season, 62-56, against Fulton-Montgomery CC to clinch a spot in the NJCAA Region 3 Basketball Tournament.

The Twins struggled to get going offensively against a very athletic and quick Fulton-Montgomery team, but were able to pull out the victory with timely shooting and made free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Jordan Hoose once again was one of the leading scorer for C-GCC, dropping 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds. "Jordan got in some foul trouble today," said head coach Walter Rickard. "It affected his overall minutes, but he was able to maximize his time when he was in the game.  We also receive great minutes from Anthony Chicaiza, who played solid defense and took two charges."  Tydrea Rodriguez finished with 12 points and snagged an impressive 10 rebounds on the day.  "I was pretty happy with our defense today, although we gave up a lot of second chance points.  The guys played hard, and that is all I can ask."

Sawyer Spohler also finished in double figures, scoring 11 points.  "Sawyer and Jon-Taylor Elmnedorf didn't shoot a high percentage from beyond the arc today, but they hit some important shots for us when Fulton-Montgomery pulled within four points.  They were clutch," said Rickard.

The Twins will now travel out to Finger Lakes CC on Thursday to participate in the Region 3 Basketball Tournament.  This marks the first time in 10 years that the Twins will make the field of eight.  "I am really happy for our guys and the institution.  We get tremendous support from our administration, faculty, staff, and community, so it is nice to be able to make the trip and have an opportunity to compete for a championship," added Rickard.

The official seeding for the tournament will be announced Sunday.

With the victory, C-GCC moves to 17-12 overall, 13-12 in Region 3 and 11-7 in the MVC.
