Twins Win Two Over Weekend

The Columbia-Greene CC men's basketball team won two games over the weekend, ousting Clinton CC on Saturday and Schenectady CC on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Twins were led by Tydrea Rodriguez, who poured in 28 points and dished out five assists in the 78-68 victory.  The Twins found themselves down four points at the half, 38-34, but outscored Clinton CC 44-30 in the second half for the victory.  Jordan Hoose dropped 14 points and hauled down an impressive 18 rebounds.  Sawyer Spohler and Jaden Edwards contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.

On Sunday, the Twins travelled to Schenectady CC for another Region 3 matchup.  The Twins put six players in double figures en route to the 93-79 victory.  Tydrea Rodriguez, Sawyer Spohler and Jordan Hoose led the way.  Rodriguez led the team with 20 points and snatched 11 rebounds. Spohler dropped 19 points and grabed 6 rebounds, while Hoose finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

In a back-and-forth first half, the Twins got down by as many as five points before they were able take the lead with just over four minutes left in the half, and led 41-34 at the intermission.  The Twins never trailed the rest of the way, expanding their lead to as many as 17 points in the second half. Jon-Taylor Elmendorf finished with 12 points, and Peter Fortes and Jaden Edwards each contributed 10 points.

"I was really happy with the weekend," said head coach Walter Rickard.  "Going up to Plattsburgh on Saturday and beating a very well coached team is never easy, and then having to travel to Schenectady on Sunday and getting the victory was tremendous.  We needed both of these to stay in contention for the play-offs, so getting these wins was crucial.  Now we need to play well against Hudson Valley, who are 5-1 in their last six games.  It is going to be a very good game."

With the victories, the Twins improved their record to 14-11 overall and 10-11 in Region 3.

Next up for C-GCC is Hudson Valley Community College on Wednesday, February 11 at 6pm at home.
