Men's Basketball Drops Region 3 Contest

The men's basketball team dropped a Region 3 contest to Onondaga CC, 90-73 in the first game of the new year.   Although the Twins held a 21-18 lead with 7:22 left in the first half, the game continued to go back and forth and the Twins finished the half down 39-38.  Head Coach Walter Rickard was happy with the tempo in the first 13 minutes of the game. "I thought we did a great job in the first 13 minutes handling the tempo.  During the last 7 minutes, they pushed the tempo way up and we had trouble getting it back under control.  Although we were only down one point at the half, it took a lot of energy out of us, which carried them into the second half."  In the first half the Twins were led by Khalil Paul, who contributed 10 points and four rebounds, followed by Maximillian Buck who tallied eight points and six rebounds.

In the second half, foul trouble started to hamper the Twins.  With 18:39 left in the second half, starter Malcolm Shivers fouled out of the game.  "With the foul trouble we were in, it forced us to do things that we did not want to do," said Rickard.  "We had two players foul out and a third player with four fouls, so it affected how we played the second half.  We had to play a lot more zone than we would like, and to their credit they started making shots."  The Lazers made seven three's in the second half, carrying them to their double digit victory.

Kevin Phillips finished the game with a team-high 17 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds. Paul finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Buck, Shivers, and Jon Halligan all finished with 10 points.  The Lazers were led by Vaughndell Brantley, who had a game-high 27 points.

The Twins fall to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in Region 3.  Next up for the Twins is Region 3 foe Schenectady CC on Tuesday with tip-off at 5:00pm.
