Baseball Splits with Mohawk Valley CC

On a beautiful day for baseball, the Columbia-Greene baseball team split their double header with Mohawk Valley losing 15-9 in Game 1 and coming out on top in Game 2, 7-0.

In Game 1 the Twins struck first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play, but could not hold on as the Hawks from Mohawk Valley took a 5-3 lead after the top of the third and never looked back.  At the plate, the Twins were led by sophomores Mike Jacobson and Jon Halligan.  Jacobsen went 4-4 and drove in a run while Halligan wen t 3-5.  Scott Fox and Kevin Hunt each contributed two hits and an RBI.

Chris Williams took the loss after 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs.  Dalton Phillips and Ezra Ernst took the mound in relief.

Game 2 was a different story.  Pitcher Kevin Gorman went the distance, giving up only four hits with two strike outs.  The Twins could only muster up two runs until the bottom half of the sixth, when they exploded for five runs.  Just like Game 1, Jacobson was the leader on offense.  He went 1-2 with a double and also drove in two runs.  Kris Bucci went 1-2 with one RBI, and Hunt drove in two runs.

The Twins' record improves to 7-7 overall and 6-4 in the Mountain Valley Conference.  They travel to Mohawk Valley on Thursday for another double header.  First pitch is at 2:00pm.
