Both the Columbia-Greene Community College baseball and softball teams ended their seasons with distinction in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Mountain Valley Conference.

Twins baseball standouts making the All Conference first team were Mike Dodig, of Saugerties, shortstop, and Max Kelly, Germantown, designated hitter. Dodig also made second team All Region.  Meanwhile, baseball Head Coach Josh Horn was selected as Coach of the Year.

The team finished with an 18-15 overall record; 17-13 in the division and 17-11 in the East-West divisional section. The athletic department was pleased with the team's performance after a four-year hiatus for baseball at the Greenport campus.

"We're happy to see results like these," said Athletic Direct Walter Rickard, "especially with a newly-formed squad.

"We proud of our players, and we're thrilled to see Josh get this kind of recognition right out of the box. And to have a dominant season performance by our softball team was the icing on the cake."

With 107 at bats, Dodig logged 49 hits, 26 RBIs and 34 runs scored, with 3 homers, 9 doubles and 3 triples. His season batting average was .458, with a .517 on-base percentage.

Dodig was also twice named Male Athlete of the Week. For the week of April 23, he had 15 hits in 23 at-bats, including a pair of homeruns, 2 doubles and a triple.

During the week, he drove in 7 runs, and scored 8 times, helping the Twins to a 5-2 record. In addition, Dodig provided the game winning solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning in a win at Jefferson CC.

The week of April 30, Dodig had 14 hits in 21 at-bats, with a homerun, 4 doubles, 5 RBIs, and scored 11 times, helping the Twins to a 6-0 record for the period. Mike provided the game winning walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning in a win against Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Kelly, who had 78 at bats, managed 28 hits, 24 RBIs (second to Dodig) and 16 runs, with 9 doubles and 1 triple. His overall batting average was .373, with a .437 on-base percentage.

Also making the conference listings was Jon Halligan, Cornwallville, who was 10th in strikeouts on the season. He threw 49 strikeouts in 51.2 innings pitched.

Twins' softball players making the All Conference Team were Courtney Hill, Valatie, second base, and outfielder Nicole VanAlstyne, Germantown.

The Lady Twins finished the season with an overall record of 22-7; 11-3 in the conference.

In 27 games, Hill achieved 38 hits,18 RBIs, and 48 runs, with 1 homer, 4 doubles and 4 triples. She had a season batting average of .418, with a .522 on-base percentage.

VanAlstyne played in 28 games during the season, racking up 43 hits, 21 RBIs and 39 runs, with 9 doubles. Her batting average was .478, with a .491 on-base percentage.

The softball team is coached by Peter Dedrick.
