Track Takes on Region III Championships

The Twins track team took on the NJCAA Region III Championship meet this past weekend. Hudson Valley Community College hosted the championship event. This would be the last meet for many of the Twins track runners.

Sophomore Riley Werner was the lone competitor for the women's team. She competed in both the 800-meters and 400-meters. Her main race is the 800-meters as Werner was ranked fourth headed into the event. She ran her personal best this season by nearly seven seconds. She ran a complete race to finish in second place overall with a personal best time of 2:45.33. This gained her All-Region honors and scored eight points for her team. Werner later competed in the 400-meter race. She ran another great race once again, finishing in sixth place overall. Werner finished with a time of 1:12.73 to pick up one more point for her team.

Just two athletes competed for the men's team at the championship meet. Freshman Connor Hillicoss competed in three events for the Twins. On day one of the meet, he competed in the prelims for the 100-meters and 200-meters. Hillicoss first competed in the 200-meters. He finished with a time of 24.80 to finish in 11th place missing finals. He would just barely miss finals in the 100-meters. Hillicoss finished the race in ninth place overall with a time of 12.16. He would have another chance on Sunday however. He would compete in the finals of the 400-meters. Hillicoss ran a personal best time of 55.45 to finish in 8thplace overall.

Freshman Adam Beach was the other competitor for the men's team. He competed in both the 800-meter finals and the 400-meter finals. He came into the 800-meters ranked second in the region. The freshman struggled in this one finishing with a time of 2:06.09. This placed in him sixth earning one point for his team. Beach later competed in the 400-meter race. The Freshman finished in ninth place with a time of 55.65.

The Twins posted impressive results despite the bad weather. For many, this is the end of a successful season. Both Adam Beach and Riley Werner plan on competing at the NJCAA Division III National meet in two weeks. This meet will take place at Mohawk Valley Community College from May 9th – 11th.
