Lashua Leads Twins in Season Finale at Home

The Twins took on Jefferson Community College Saturday in their last game of the season. At halftime, the Twins recognized the graduating sophomores that would be leaving the team after this season. Sophomores Katherine Christman, Keegan Deyo, Nicole Kernan, Holly Kleinmeier, and Ashley Wixon were honored at halftime for their effort and dedication put into this team. Their opponents, the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, came into this game with just two wins this season and 11 losses.

Things kicked off with a lot of back and forth between the two teams. Each team had their chances in the first ten minutes before the Twins broke through. Sophomore Katherine Christman scored her third goal of the season at 11:41. Freshman Chandler Hoose recorded the assist. The Twins extened that lead with another goal at 26:56 from Freshman Jenna Lashua. Freshman Amanda Rustick picked up her first assist of the season on the play. Three minutes later, Freshman Riley Knoetgen netted her first goal of the season to put the Twins in the driver's seat, 3-0. Jenna Lashua picked up the assist on that goal. Chandler Hoose netted one more to close out the half with help on the assist from Freshman Jessica Steinke. The Twins went into half up, 4-0.

After the sophomore ceremony, the Twins hopped back onto the field to play the second half. They struck in the first four minutes with another goal off the foot of Jenna Lashua. Katherine Christman recorded the assist and would pick up the next goal at 62:37. Sophomore Ashley Wixon picked up the assist. The Cannoneers scored a goal of their own late but the Twins responded with two of their own. Sophomores Ashley Wixon and Keegan Deyo each added a goal to put the Twins on their way to a 10-1 victory.

The Twins finished their season with a three-game win streak. Freshman Jenna Lashua ended things on a good note with a huge game. Lashua netted her first career hat trick scoring three goals and adding an assist to that total. She finishes the season with the most assists on the team. Sophomore Katherine Christman had her biggest game as a Twin as well. She scored two goals of her own and picked up two assists. She finishes the season with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Ashley Wixon got her first points of the season with a goal and an assist in the win. Freshman Chandler Hoose finished with a goal and assist of her own. Sophomore Keegan Deyo came out of the goalkeeper position to score a goal. She saved all four of the shots that came her way in the first half. Freshman Jessica Steinke took over in goal saving eight of the nine shots she faced. Head coach Andrew Lashua had this to say, "What a great way to send off our sophomores. Scoring 10 goals was our best offensive effort of the year.  Better yet, having seven different players score and recording seven assists is a testament to their ability to work together.".

It was a tough fought season for the Twins women's soccer team in their first season back. Despite some tough losses, they earned the respect of players and coaches in the region. Below you can read some info on the departing sophomores honored at Saturday's game.
