Women's Soccer Battles Through Back to Back Games

The Twins traveled far for back to back road games this past weekend. The first game took place Saturday against the #9 nationally ranked Genesee Community College Cougars. The Cougars flaunt a 3-1 record heading into this matchup. The Twins are still looking for their second win of the season with a 1-3 record to start.

A lot of back and forth opened the game. The Cougars took the advantage on shots early on but Twins goalkeeper, Keegan Deyo, kept the Cougars scoreless despite five shots against. The first half ended with a scoreless tie. The second half opened with much of the same till the Cougars scored one to make it 1-0 in the 74th minute. Down by one now and looking to get it back even, the Twins pushed for a goal. In the 79th minute Freshman Maggie Ryan scored to tie the game up with just ten minutes left. The teams prepared for overtime as the clock ran out. In the first overtime, just one shot was recorded as the game remained tied after one overtime. Nearly two overtimes were completed when the Cougars scored to take the victory 2-1.

The Twins fought against a tough nationally ranked Genesee team and fell just short. In goal for the Twins was Sophomore Keegan Deyo. Deyo faced five shots on goal, allowing just two goals. Freshman Maggie Ryan scored the lone goal for the Twins.

After a long battle the day before, the Twins got set to battle the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers on Sunday. The Lakers picked up a 2-5 record heading into this game.

The Lakers took advantage early with quick back to back goals in the 12th and 13th minute to open the game. They netted another two goals on 25 first half shots to take a 4-0 lead to end the first half. The Twins recorded four shots in the first half. The Lakers got another quick goal to open the second half and put the Twins in a deep 5-0 hole. The Twins would fight back though with a goal in the 53rd minute from Freshman Ashley Pettengill. Her first goal of the season. With shut down defense the rest of the way, the Twins scored one more coming from Freshman Maggie Ryan. The Twins ultimately fell to the Lakers 5-2.

Sophomore Keegan Deyo faced 20 shots on goal and allowed just four goals. Freshman Jessica Steinke spent some time in net as well allowing one goal on five shots. Freshman Ashley Pettengill scored her first goal of the season unassisted. Freshman Maggie Ryan scored her fourth goal of the season.

The Twins will be back on the road for their next one against Tompkins Cortland Community College. This game will replace the recently cancelled home game against Dutchess Community College. It will take place at Tompkins Cortland on Tuesday September 17th at 5 pm.
