Softball Sweeps Orange for Fourth Win in a Row

 

The Basics

Game One

Score: Twins 7 Colts 4

How it happened:

The Twins traveled on Friday to take on the SUNY Orange Colts in some softball action. After a scoreless first inning, the Colts struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Colts added one more in the third to make it a 3-0 game. The Twins struggled to score a run till the sixth inning. The Twins scored one in the sixth to make it a two-run game. The Colts tacked one on before a monster seventh inning for the Twins. The Twins rallied to score six runs in the seventh inning. This put them up, 7-4 with just one-half inning to go in the game. The Twins starting pitcher, Kaylee Hoffman, came out to pitch one more inning and finish off the Colts.

Sophomore Kaylee Hoffman was the starting pitcher for the Twins. She pitched a complete seven inning game allowing just 3 earned runs on seven hits and three strikeouts. Freshman Jenna Poulsen went three for four at the plate with a double and one run batted in. Freshman Holly Kleinmeier went two for four with two runs batted in off her second home run of the season. Freshman Kelsey Taylor hit two doubles in the win and picked up two runs batted in.

 

The Basics

Game Two

Score: Twins 8 Colts 1

How it happened:

The Twins bats came alive in the last inning of game one. That would carry over into game two as the Twins put up two runs in the first inning. The Twins grabbed another run in the third to go up 3-0 over the Colts. A big five run inning for the Twins in the fourth gave them a commanding lead. The Colts do pick up one run in the fifth but fail to comeback any further. The Twins cruise to a win in this one by a final score of 8-1.

Freshman Claire Filak was the starting pitcher for the Twins going seven full innings allowing just one run, four hits, and striking out four. Sophomore Justine Albin went one for three at the plate and picked up three runs batted in. Sohpomore Jaclyn Gehring went one for three and batted in three off her second home run of the season. Freshman Hannah Mawyin hit three singles. Freshman Holly Kleinmeier hit her third home run of the season in the victory.

 

The Twins are back at home for the next doubleheader. They will take on SUNY Broome in a Region III contest. This doubleheader will take place at home April 23rd with first pitch at 3pm.
