Softball traveled to SUNY Broome Tuesday to take on the Hornets in double-header action.  SUNY Broome came into this game with a 7 –3 record.  The Twins entered the game just over .500 with a 10 – 9 record. 

Freshman Rachel Nielsen was on the mound to start the Twins first game Tuesday.  After a scoreless first inning, the Twins put one on the board to take a 1 – 0 lead.  The Hornets would not stay quite though, as they drove in three runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 3 – 1.  The Twins would tack on just one run in the fourth inning as the Twins fall to SUNY Broome 8 – 2 in game one of the double-header.  Nielsen pitched six innings for the Twins allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and struck out four.  Nielsen also flaunted some offense this game going two for four at the plate with a double.  Freshman Jaclyn Gehring went two for three at the plate and scored one run on her third home run of the season.   Freshman Sydney Spohler drove in the other run on a sac fly. 

Freshman Kaylee Hoffman would get the start for game two of the day.  She would struggle in the first few innings, giving up six runs in the first three innings.  The Twins picked up two runs in the first and then a four run third inning put the Twins even with the Hornets 6 – 6 after three innings.  Rachel Nielsen would come in and pitch the rest of the game for the Twins.  Nielsen shut down the Hornets in the fifth and sixth inning.  A huge eight run rally in the sixth inning from the Twins gave them the victory in six innings 17 – 9.  All but one Twins batters recorded a hit in the high scoring game.  Kaylee Hoffman pitched three innings and allowed seven earned runs and walked three.  Rachel Nielsen came in relief and pitched three innings allowing no earned runs on four hits and struck out three.  Sophomore Tori Popp had a big game as she went two of four at the plate and drove in three runs.  Freshman Kaylee Hoffman hit her fourth home run of the season and drove in two runs.  Freshman Justine Albin went two for three at the plate with three runs batted in off a double. 

The Twins will take on Hudson Valley Community College in their next double-header.  This game is set to take place at Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday April 26^th.  The first game will begin at 3 pm.
