The Twins softball team had back to back double-headers this past weekend.  Due to the amount of rain that fell last week, all four games were moved to Cantine Field in Saugerties. 

The first of the double-headers was played against Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday.  Freshman Rachel Nielsen started her 11^th game of the season in this one.  She ran into a bit of trouble after giving up three runs in the first inning.  The Twins struck right back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own to tie up the game.  They tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5 – 3 lead.  A huge fifth inning for the Twins gave them a commanding lead to take the game 13 – 5 in five innings.  Freshman Rachel Nielsen pitched five innings allowing four earned runs on five hits and struck out seven batters to get the win.  Freshman Jaclyn Gehring went two for three at the plate with three runs batted in on her second home run of the season.  Freshman Kaylee Hoffman went three for four with two runs batted in on a double.  Freshman Baylee Cox went two for four and batted in two runs in the Twins victory.

Freshman Kaylee Hoffman got the start in game two against Mohawk Valley Community College.  She showed a little bit of nerves, giving up two runs in the first inning.  The Twins struck with a big first inning with five runs scored to put the Twins up 5 – 2.  Hoffman shut-down Mohawk Valley the rest of the way.  With another big fifth inning for the Twins, they take the sweep of Mohawk Valley by a final score of 11 – 2 in five innings.  Kaylee Hoffman in the winning pitcher with two runs allowed on four hits and four strikeouts.  Hoffman also had a wonderful day at the plate going three for four with three runs batted in as she hits her third home run of the season.  Sophomore Tori Popp went one for two at the plate and batted in four runs as she hits her first home run of the season.  Freshman Justine Albin batted in one run going two for two at the plate. 

The Twins looked to continue this momentum when they took on Finger Lakes Community College in more double-header action on Sunday.  Freshman Rachel Nielsen made her 12^th start of the season in game one against Finger Lakes.  She gave up two runs in the first inning but the Twins got them right back in the bottom half of the inning.  A nine runs first inning for the Twins gave them a commanding lead, 9 – 2.  The Twins cruised to victory in game one, 12 – 4 in six innings.  Freshman Rachel Nielsen pitched six innings allowing four earned runs on four hits and struck out seven.  Freshman Kaylee Hoffman hit her fourth home run of the season going two for three at the plate and driving in two runs.  Freshman Justine Albin went two for three at the plate and batted in three on a bases clearing double.  Freshman Baylee Cox went two for four at the plate with two runs batted in on a double. 

Just like the day before, Freshman Kaylee Hoffman started game two of the day for the Twins.  The offense was all in for the Twins in game two.  They started off by taking a 3 – 0 lead in the first inning.  A huge nine run third inning put the Twins in the driver's seat, 12 – 2 after three innings.  The Twins had an even bigger fourth inning.  They put up 12 more runs to go up 24 – 2 going into the final inning.  Finger Lakes fought back with four runs in the fifth, but it was not enough to make up the big deficit as the Twins cruise to victory 26 – 6.  Freshman Kaylee Hoffman pitched all five-innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits.  Hoffman also hit her fourth home run in the season for one run batted in.  Sophomore Tori Popp batted in four runs going two for four at the plate.  Freshman Justine Albin went three of four at the plate to drive in four runs.  The Twins offense was on fire as every Twin in the lineup picked up at least one hit and batted in at least one run.   

The Twins will look to keep this streak going when they travel to Hudson Valley Community College Thursday April 26^th.  The first of two games will begin at 3 pm.
