The Twins softball team hosted their first home games of the season this past weekend. They took on the Onondaga Community College Lazers. The Lazers came into this contest with an 8 – 10 record while the Twins were 6 – 7 going into the weekend.
Starting pitcher for the Twins was freshman Rachel Nielsen. She ran into trouble in the first inning and gave up a run. She would shut down the Lazers the rest of the game however. The Twins struggled to get any offense going as they are dealt the loss in a tough one, 1 – 0. Freshman Rachel Nielsen went seven innings and only allowed two hits and one run while striking out five batters.
After her success in game one, Rachel Nielsen once again got the start. She got off to a rough start in the first inning as she allowed two runs. The Twins struck back with one run on a fielder's choice in the third inning. The Lazers cam back with another two runs to make the lead 4 – 1. The Twins offensive struggles continued as the Twins ultimately fall to the Lazers, 5 – 1. Freshman Rachel Nielsen pitched six innings allowing five runs on five hits and struck out four. Freshman Baylee Cox went two for three at the plate and was walked once. Freshman Jaclyn Gehring recorded one hit for a double and walked three times.
The Twins have lost their last four games. However, those four games came against two of the top teams in the region. The Twins are back in action Friday April 20th. They will be taking on SUNY Adirondack at home in doubleheader action. The games start at 3 pm.
