Softball Makes Regionals With Winning Streak

Twin's softball has been on fire to end the season.  After going to SUNY Adirondack and winning two games, the Twins traveled to Fulton-Montgomery Community College to take on the Raiders.  With D'Arcy Bittner on the mound, the Raiders jumped out to an early 1 – 0 lead in the first inning.  The Twins offense started to catch up later in the game, scoring five total runs to win the game 5 – 1.  D'Arcy Bittner pitched seven innings allowing only one run on four hits and seven strike outs. Bittner also went 4 – 4 at the plate with an RBI.  Catherine Gomm went 2 – 3 with two RBI's and a double.  Elizabeth Gould went 2 – 3 with a double.

D'Arcy Bittner was even more impressive for the second game of the day.  She pitched a shutout and allowed only four hits and had five strike outs.  The Twins got the offense started with a four run first inning.  They continued to score a total eight runs to solidify the win in five innings. The Twins won 8 – 0 to bring their win streak to four in a row going into the weekend.  Michaella Lamont hit her first collegiate home run in the game going 2 -2 at the plate with three RBI's.  Brooke Hapeman went 2 – 3 at the plate with two RBI's.  Bittner went 3 – 3 with a double.

The Twins looked to extend their win streak as they played their last home games of the regular season Saturday.  They took on Jefferson Community College in some doubleheader action.  Scoring four runs in the first inning, the Twins jumped on top of Jefferson to take a 4 – 0 lead.  The Twins posted 10 more runs in the second inning and ran away with it to win 22 – 0 in five innings.  D'Arcy Bittner allowed only two hits in the game to earn the win.  Bittner also went 4 – 4 at the plate with four RBI's and four steals.  Lauren Bowes went 4 – 4 with three RBI's, on a triple, and a double.  Brooke Hapeman went 3 – 4 with four RBI's on two doubles.  Elizabeth Gould went 3 – 4 with three RBI's and a double.

Alexandria Jerro-Greco got the start for the second game of the day.  The Twins once again jumped out to an early lead, 4 – 0, in the first inning.  After an eight run third inning the Twins took a commanding 12 – 0 lead.  Jefferson scored four innings in the fifth inning but it wasn't enough as the Twins win 14 – 4 in five innings.  Jerro-Greco got the win allowing four runs on five hits and five strikeouts.  She also had a great game at the plate going 2 – 4 with two doubles and four RBI's. Michaella Lamont went 2 – 2 with three RBI's.  Catherine Gomm went 2 – 4 with two RBI's.

This gave the Twins a six game winning streak to end the regular season.  This was a big contribution into the regions decision to include the Columbia-Greene Community College Twins softball team in postseason play.  They will travel to Herkimer Tuesday to take on the Generals in the first round of the 2017 Region III tournament.
