Track Team Battles at Fitchburg State

The Twins men's and women's track team traveled to Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts to compete in the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational.  It was a frigid day in Fitchburg, but the meet would go on as planned.

Freshman Riley Werner was the first Twin to compete for the day.  Werner would compete in the second heat of the 800 meters.  It was a duel for third place in the last 400 meters of the race.  Werner held off the runner from Northern Essex Community College to place third in her heat of the 800 meters.  She finished with a time of 2:56, just three seconds shy of her personal record for the season.  She placed 14th overall in the event.

Sophomores Sabra Simon and Amira Furtado both competed in the 200 meters.  Both were placed to compete in heat four of the event.  It was very windy at the start of the event, as it was most the day.  Simon placed third in her heat with a time of 33.87.  This is just .4 seconds off her personal record in the event.  Furtado placed fifth in heat four with a time of 36.29.  This was Furtado's first-time racing in the 200 meters.

Freshman Nicholas Funk finished things off for the Twins with a tough run in the 5,000 meters.  This is Funk's first-time competing in the 5,000 meters on the track.  He finished in 11th place with a time of 21:29.  This is Funk's personal record at this distance.

The Twins track & field team will have a week without a meet before they travel to SUNY Cortland on April 21st.  They will take on the Cortland Classic Invitational at SUNY Cortland April 21st.  Meet begins at 10 am.
