Twins Comeback Falls Short Against #4 Hawks, 85-74

The Twins played their last game till the new year Wednesday.  They took on the #4 ranked Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks in Mountain Valley Conference action.  The Hawks have been on a roll entering this game with an 11-1 record this season. Their only loss came in early November to the now #3 ranked Herkimer College. This is the last game before the new year for the Twins. Their last game was a slim victory over Corning Community College.

The Twins looked to pull off the upset as they took on the #4 Hawks on Wednesday. Things went well for the Twins to start. The shots were falling when they took a 12-9 lead over the Hawks in the early minutes of the game. They would get stalled at 12 points though as the Hawks took over the lead, 18-12.  It was mostly Hawks the rest of the first half with the Twins staying close. They would be down at halftime, 44-31.

The Twins stayed within range of the Hawks to start the second half. Then almost halfway into the second half, the Twins had a surge. Led by two straight three-pointers from Sophomore Michael Alert, the Twins re-took the lead, 50-49.  A little bit of back and forth between the two teams led to the score being tied up at 56 on each side. That's when the Hawks went on a bit of a run over the Twins to re-take the lead. This would continue as the Twins fall to the #4 Hawks in a thriller, 85-74.

The leading scorer for the Twins was Sophomore Jihadu Brunner-Brown reaching a double-double. He scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Sophomore Michael Alert was all over the stat sheet once again recording 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman Ezequiel De La Cruz had his highest scoring game of the season with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

The Twins will be back in action after the winter break. Their next game will come at Hudson Valley Community College January 8th. Tip-off for this game is set for 1 pm.
