Twins Split Weekend Games

The Twins had a full weekend at home as they played both Saturday and Sunday games. First up on Saturday were the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers.  The Lakers came into this game with a 6-4 record so far this season. Their last game was a victory over Tompkins Cortland Community College.  The Twins came into this game with an identical 6-4 record. Their last game was a 93-90 win over Schenectady County Community College.

The beginning of Saturdays game went the Twins way as they got out to a quick lead over the Lakers. They would take a commanding lead into halftime thanks to 11 first half points from Michael Alert. The Twins were up to start the second half, 45-38.  The second half was a much different story as the Lakers began to take over. Missed three pointers and an ejection hurt the Twins as they tried to hold onto the lead. The Twins ultimately fell to the Lakers by a final score of 83-70.

This loss put the Twins at 6-5 so far this season. The leading scorer for the Twins was Sophomore Michael Alert with 17 points. Sophomore Jihadu Brunner-Brown wasn't far behind as he finished with 15 points. Freshman Ezequial De La Cruz also contributed 10 points in the loss.

The Twins looked for a quick turnaround as they got set to play the Corning Community College Red Barons on Sunday. The Red Barons came into this game with a 5-4 record this season. Their last game was the day before as they defeated Schenectady County Community College, 76-63.

This game started out very close with the Twins getting just a small lead at the start. They would take that lead into halftime behind Jihadu Brunner-Brown's 14 first half points. The Twins were up at halftime, 39-34. The Twins struggled once again in the second half as they saw their lead get taken away. It was back and forth as the game came down to the wire. With the game tied at 69, the Twins Jihadu Brunner-Brown put up a three with a second left on the clock and was fouled on the shot. He went to the line to shoot three free throws with just .2 seconds on the clock. He made the first one and missed the second before a timeout. He missed the third shot and the Red Barons had one last toss down the court that fell short. The Twins win a nail bitter, 70-69.

Leading scorer for the Twins was Jihadu Brunner-Brown with 21 points. Brunner-Brown also finished with seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Michael Alert reached a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. Freshman Cameron Thomas also reached a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.

The Twins are set to play their last game of the semester Tuesday December 11th.  They will be taking on Mohawk Valley Community College at home on Tuesday at 7pm.
