Twins Off to Hot Start

The Twins men's basketball team played two games this past weekend.  This would be their last games till after the holiday break. They came into the weekend with four wins and no losses this season. They took on the Cayuga Community College Spartans on Saturday.  The Spartans came into this game with a 2 – 3 record so far this season.

The teams traded baskets through the first half of the game. Sophomore Michael Alert was the high scorer in the first half for the Twins with 10 points. They would go into the locker room at halftime trailing by just two points, 43 – 41.  Both teams had a big second half with the Spartans reaching 52 second half points. Alert put up another 10 points in the second half to add to the late comeback attempt. However, the Twins would fall just short by a final score of 95 – 87. 

This marked the Twins first loss of the season. Sophomore Michael Alert was the leading scorer once again for the Twins with 20 points.  Alert also finished with four steals. Freshman Isaac McIntosh had his high scoring game of the season with 13 points making 75% of his shots. Sophomore Bright Afful finished with 12 points and three rebounds.

The next day they looked to shake off that loss to face the Onondaga Community College Lazers. The Lazers were 4 – 1 coming into this game. Their first loss came at the hands of Niagara Community College the week before.

The Twins struggled to get much going in the first half. Sophomore Jihadu Brunner-Brown got things going for the Twins with 15 first half points. Freshman Kevin Diaz also drilled three three-pointers in the first half. However, the Twins would still be down going into halftime 42 – 40.  The Twins kept within reach of the Lazers till just the last five minutes of the game.  Sophomore Bright Afful scored the go-ahead basket to put the Twins up 88 – 85 with just seconds to go. The last second three-point attempt from the Lazers was off. The Twins win a nail biter by a final score of 88 – 85. 

Sophomore Jihadu Brunner-Brown scored 27 points in the win and reached his first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. This was the sophomores highest scoring game of the season. Freshman Kevin Diaz scored 12 points sinking three of his four three-pointers. Freshman Cameron Thomas had his highest scoring game this season with 11 points. Sophomore Michael Alert also contributed nine points in the victory.

This was the last Twins game before the break for the holiday. The Twins will be back in action when they take on SUNY Sullivan.  They will be on the road to take on the Generals on November 27th at 7 pm.
