High School Summer League Ends with Championship Games

Columbia-Greene Community College once again hosted their High School Summer Basketball League. Many high schools from the twin counties and beyond fielded teams. The league ended this past Thursday with championship games for both the boys and girls' teams.

The women's championship bracket was set-up with Hudson taking the #1 seed and Red Hook capturing the #2 seed.  After not losing a game all season, Hudson was upset by #3 Saugerties WHITE in the semi-finals, 48 - 44. Red Hook easily defeated #5 Chatham in their semi-final matchup, 49 - 20. The championship matchup was set to be #2 Red Hook against #3 Saugerties WHITE.

#3 Saugerties WHITE pulled off the upset once again. This time over #2 Red Hook in the championship game, 59 – 40. They finished the season with an overall record of 9 wins and 2 losses. The Saugerties WHITE girls summer basketball league team was named Summer League Champions for 2019.   

The men's bracket was all set with Catskill taking the #1 seed and Coxsackie-Athens taking the #2 seed. Not many upsets in the first round with #4 Germantown moving on to battle #2 Coxsackie-Athens in the semi-finals and #3 Greenville moving on to face #1 Catskill in the semi-finals. Catskill continued their dominance to defeat #3 Greenville, 66 – 47, in the semi-finals. Coxsackie-Athens also cruised to the championship game defeating #4 Germantown, 49 – 29.  #1 Catskill was set to take on #2 Coxsackie-Athens in the championship game.

#1 Catskill continued their dominance in the championship game. They defeated #2 Coxsackie-Athens by a final score of 62 – 39. Catskill went undefeated this season with 10 total wins to be named Summer League Champions for 2019.
