Rip Wins Mascot Madness!

Everyone in the college community is thrilled to announce that our mascot, Rip Van Winkle, has won the SUNY Mascot Madness tournament this year. After losing in the final round last year, another deep run was expected this year. Rip didn't disappoint as he flew through the bracket making it into the final round for the second straight year.

Coming in as the #8 seed, Rip had a tough battle in the first round against #1 seed Ellsworth Eagle (SUNY Brockport) and #9 seeded Colt (Orange CCC). He rose to the challenge defeating both to move on. In the second round, Rip had to take on #5 seed Damien and Pedwin (UAlbany). Rip squeezed by the large school to reach the elite eight. The highest seed Rip would face came in the elite eight. He was taking on #3 seed Roody Roo (SUNY Canton). Rip cruised to victory, receiving nearly 300 more votes then Roody Roo. With that victory, Rip once again claimed the Region 1 title, but that's not the end. Rip would be put to the test going up against Hugo Hawk (SUNY New Paltz) in the final four. It was a close one all the way through as Rip takes the victory by a margin of just 100 votes. Onto the finals was Rip for the second year in a row. He would go against Walter T. Wildcat (SUNY Poly) for the crown. It was back and forth when voting was going on. A last second push from Rip pushed him into the lead as the final minutes counted down. The final tally left no doubt, as Rip defeated Walter by more than 300 points.  Rip would be named the SUNY Mascot Madness 2019 Champion!
