Basketball Ready to Kick Off Season at Goldberg Classic
The Twins home basketball tournament, the Goldberg Classic, will kick off the 2018-19 NJCAA basketball season. The Goldberg Classic will take place in the Columbia-Greene Community College gym November 2nd and 3rd. There are four teams competing in the men's tournament and four teams competing in the women's tournament. Friday November 2nd, the first-round games will take place with the championship and consolation games taking place on Saturday November 3rd.
The Twins men's basketball team is looking to defend the championship after winning the Goldberg Classic last season. This is a totally new team on the men's side with a new head coach and just one returning player from last season. The Twins will be up against the College of St. Josephs Fighting Saints. Though the Saints are in a different league, (USCAA Division II) they should be a good matchup for the Twins. The winner of the first-round game will take on the winner between SUNY Orange and Berkshire Community College.
The Twins women's basketball team will also be looking to defend their Goldberg Classic championship. They are looking to continue the success they found last season. The Twins lost a handful of players from last season's Region III Runner's-up team. This includes Region III player of the year Tanisha Edge. The Twins will take on SUNY Cortland's Club Team in the first round of the tournament. The winner of this game will go on to take on the winner of the game between Springfield Tech and SUNY Ulster.
